Your Jaw

Analysis and possible treatment of your jaw is always a necessary step in the control of neck pain, headaches, and jaw pain. Due to the close proximity of the jaw to the cervical spine, as well as its attachment to the skull and the strong forces that can be applied to the joint, it can often be an area of dysfunction and pain. Treatment can involve both internal and external methods.

Your Neck

The neck is a highly mobile, however, unstable structure of the body, which means it is injured easily. Due to the neck being the gateway to the head, a lot of other structures also exist within it, leading to increased chances of pain, dysfunction, and infection. These include your lymphatics, carotid arteries, jugular veins as well as nerves supplying the shoulders and organs.

Your Lungs

Your lungs are organs of excretion. Healthy breathing encourages elimination. It decreases your chances of catching coughs, colds, and more severe illnesses. Flexibility in your diaphragm and rib muscles allows you to breathe deeply and well. Osteopathic therapy enhances that flexibility, allowing your lungs to do their job.

Your Digestion

The nutrients that power your body are absorbed through your gut, and your immune system is founded here. With the diaphragm above and the pelvic floor below, your digestive organs are supported and with two important groups of muscles. Osteopathic therapy can ensure that they work optimally, promoting the movement and circulation that is crucial to digestive health - and therefore to overall health.

Your Pelvic Floor

The pelvic floor is comprised of the muscles that help hold your organs in place and help provide abdominal pressure resulting in core stability and support. Without proper function and control of the pelvic floor, it can result in a lot of problems like pain, instability and poor control, through the hips, pelvis, abdomen, spine and organs.

Your Shoulder

The shoulder is a joint that has a large amount of flexibility and range of motion, however this means it sacrifices stability. Injuries and dysfunction occur easily and often in the shoulder. This is due to poor posture, falling on outstretched hands, unaccustomed exercise, or excessive repetition of a task. The shoulder is the gateway to the arm, and as such, injury to the shoulder often affects the rest of the upper limb.

Your Elbow

The elbow has a very important role in the use of our arm. It doesn’t just allow movement to occur through your forearm, but is also an anchor point for most of the muscles of your wrist, fingers, and thumbs. Without proper motion, nerve supply, and support, the elbow can easily break down - leading to pain and stiffness with grasping objects, as well as controlling hand and wrist movements.

Your Hips

Your hips are the structure that are designed for transmitting a lot of support and stability while also providing a lot of flexibility. With flexibility and functionality through your hips, it allows the rest of your body to function without having to provide any compensatory mechanisms in order for you to leave from here and arrive over there. Osteopathic therapy and advice can provide the change in strength and flexibility that will assist in making sure your hips are working to their primary function. Thus this can prevent the compensatory mechanisms that can occur through to the rest of your body.

Your Pelvis

While often overlooked, the pelvis has an important role in our health and wellbeing. It is the gateway between our legs to our spine, and transitions the load and weight bearing from our middle and upper body into our legs. The pelvis also helps support our abdominal viscera. It holds primary importance in removing any unwanted items. Without the support, stability and mobility of the pelvis, pregnancy can become a very traumatic experience - thus the health and functionality of the pelvis is of great importance.

Your Spine

The spine is the part of our anatomy that allows humans to walk upright. It provides us with the structure for which muscular contraction can occur in order to propel us forward whilst in an upright position, as well as distributing load from the upper body to the lower body. More importantly our spine protects our spinal cord, which houses most of the nerves that run from the brain down to the rest of the body and thus sends instructions to all other structures within the body. It also relays any information from those structures back to the brain.

Your Wrist

Of all the bones and joints that make up the human body, over a quarter of them exist in your two hands and wrists. This means that your wrist and hand are designed for a lot of complex and intricate movements. Due to our lifestyles involving work and play, we perform a lot of repetitive movements that can lead to strain injuries, swelling, and pain. Osteopathic treatment focuses on controlling the aggravating factors, and returning the hands to a state of pain-free, biomechanical function.
